PDF Compressor

Smaller PDFs.
Same sharp text.

Drop in a PDF and get a much smaller copy that's still easy to read on screen. Image-heavy files shrink the most. Everything runs on your Mac.

Version 0.4.0 · 4.4 MB · macOS 13 Ventura or later · Apple silicon and Intel · Free

Built to shrink files, not quality

The compressor only reworks what makes PDFs heavy: oversized images and leftover data. Your text, fonts and vector graphics stay as they are.

Text stays text

Pages are never turned into pictures. You can still select, search and copy everything in the document.

Smart image resizing

Images are scaled down only when they're sharper than the page can show, then saved as efficient JPEGs.

Private by design

No uploads, no account, no tracking. Files are processed on your Mac and never leave it.

Never bigger

If a file can't be made smaller, you get an unchanged copy. Originals are never touched.

Batch friendly

Drop in a stack of files and compress them in one go. Each copy is saved next to its original.

Clean metadata

Hidden extras like thumbnails, editing leftovers and document metadata are removed.

Preview and compare

Check any file in Quick Look, then flip between the compressed copy and the original to judge quality.

Light or dark

Follows your Mac, or pick Light or Dark in the app.

Pick how small

Four presets cover everything from print to email. Results from a 3-page, 39.5 MB photo-heavy PDF:

Questions

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Compression runs entirely on your Mac, and the app makes no network requests.

Where is the compressed file saved?

Next to the original, named name-compressed.pdf. The original is never modified.

Why did a file barely get smaller?

PDFs that are mostly text and vector graphics are often already compact. The biggest savings come from scans and photo-heavy documents.

Does it work with password-protected PDFs?

PDFs that open without a password but restrict editing work and keep their protection. PDFs that need a password to open aren't supported in the app yet.

Is it free?

Yes, this release is free.
